ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday said the government is stable and confident on the political front and the opposition will face defeat.

He was talking with Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar and Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar who called on him in Lahore.

PM Imran Khan said that the first and important phase is Islamabad on political ground. He further stated that decisions about the political situation of Punjab will be decided after consultations with all concerned stakeholders.

During the meeting, the prime minister also tasked the Punjab governor and CM Buzdar to engage with Punjab MNAs and MPAs amid a no-confidence motion in Centre and a tense political situation in Punjab.

On the occasion, matters pertaining to the political situation of the country, ongoing developmental projects and administrative matters of the province were also discussed.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan met two provincial ministers, Sardar Asif Nakai and Samsam Bukhari, from the Jahangir Tareen group amid the political developments in Punjab province.

PM Imran Khan said that the development of backward areas and cities neglected in the past was among the government’s foremost priorities.

Besides political situation in Punjab, the matters relating to ongoing development projects in the ministries concerned were discussed in the meeting. The prime minister during the meeting said that it was for the first time that development projects were launched across the province.

Soon afterward, the Jahangir Khan Tareen group has announced its dissociation from the provincial ministers who met the prime minister. The spokesperson of the group said that the provincial ministers including Asif Nakai and Akhtar Malik were no longer part of the like-minded group led by Tareen.

He added that Samsam Bukhari and Hashim Dogar were not members of the group anymore, saying the decision of dissociating was taken on the instructions of Jahangir Tareen.

The Jahangir Tareen group witnessed a rift after the leader of Jahangir Tareen group Khurram Laghari rejected the proposal to remove Usman Buzdar as chief minister. In a statement, Khurram Laghari said that the decision could be of a single person and he stands with Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

Punjab Minister for Energy Akhtar Malik had refused to join hands with PTI leader Aleem Khan, saying he would not leave the party during the difficult time. More than 40 PTI MPAs in the Punjab Assembly have expressed their full confidence in the leadership of Punjab chief minister.
