KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the immediate demolition of illegal portions in the Liaquatabad area.
As per details, the apex Court has directed the authorities concerned to raze a six-story building constructed on 50 yards of land without taking permission from concerned agencies.
During the hearing, the petitioner said a plot located in the Qasimabad area and spread over 100 yards, was divided into two, and flats were built on it illegally.
“No approval was taken from the concerned agencies as well,” he added, pointing out that such constructions on small plots pose danger to the lives and properties of people living in the neighborhoods. The lawyer said that despite multiple requests and letters sent to SBCA, no action was taken.
The revelations of the petitioner irked the court after which it lambasted the building authority and ordered immediate demolition. The judge has also sought a report on illegal structures from SBCA chief and the director of the Central district.
In the last one year, the Sindh High Court has passed a series of judgments against illegal structures in Karachi. The precedent was first set by the Supreme Court. In 2021, during hearings at the apex court’s Karachi registry, demolition orders of Nasla Tower and Tejori Heights were passed. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed wants to remove encroachments and raze illegal buildings in the city.
