KARACHI: A solar cell developed by a team led by young Pakistani scientists has set two new records for energy efficiency.
As per the Express News, through this, the sun will help to generate abundant electricity, on the other hand, it will be possible to reduce global warming in an environmentally friendly way.
Yasir Siddiqui, from Faisalabad, is currently affiliated with the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) at the University of Science and Technology, South Korea. As a central scientist, he has been instrumental in designing and manufacturing a brand new solar cell called Copper Indium Sulfo Selenide (CISSE).
This solar cell has been stabilized by adding a special solution and the full name of the cell is a bit longer which has been named as ‘CISSE’. Dozens of types of solar cells are being made and used in the world. They are also distributed and described in first, second, and third-generation solar cells. Each type of solar cell has its own strengths and weaknesses. The efficiency of conventional silicon solar cells is 15 percent to 20 percent. In addition, the efficiency of a concentrated solar panel reaches 41 percent, but it has to reflect the sun’s rays from the mirrors in one place.
However, the solar cell developed by Dr. Yasir belongs to the type of sandwich or tandem and is also the most effective invention in this field. The preparation of the revolutionary cell involves three years of hard work. Of these, only the CISSE cell has an efficacy of 14.4%. When combined with the prosciutto mineral, this prosciutto, the CISSE cell touched 23.03 efficiency which is a new record for the CISSE solar cell produced by the solution process.
