KARACHI: Employees of the Sindh Home Department are allegedly involved in selling arms and ammunition licences on commission while several employees posted in the department for years could not be transferred despite Supreme Court’s orders, it emerged on Monday.
According to details, the junior employees of the home department have secured their seats by giving misleading reports to the new secretary Qazi Shahid Pervez and transferring several employees from the department.
At present, Additional Secretary Ghulam Ali Soomro, Junior Officer Saad Shah, Abdul Razzaq Mallah, Wasim Zaidi and Faisal Khan have started running the entire department in an arbitrary manner.
Since the appointment of Qazi Shahid Pervez, the monthly quota of 200 arms licenses of the Secretary expired on November 12. According to sources, the aforementioned employees have sold arms licences for Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per month through dealers without briefing the Secretary.
Sources have claimed that junior employee Saad Shah was appointed as Data Entry Operator in jail under Sindh Home Department. He is now illegally serving as the in-charge of the Home Department’s Crime Monitoring Cell (CMC). Saad Shah also possessed a vehicle with official number plate.
It is learned that dozens of employees of Sindh Home Department have been deployed for years on the highest political recommendations of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
According to sources, Wasim Zaidi was posted in Sindh Home Department during MQM’s tenure and played a key role in issuing licences to party workers.
Several employees of the admin section, including Wasim Zaidi, the personal secretary to the home secretary, have been stationed in one department despite the Supreme Court’s orders of transferring officials after three years.
With the connivance of Superintendent Arms Branch Abdul Razzaq Mallah and Saad Shah, license applications from arms dealers based in the city are expedited for the sake of their commission.
It is pertinent to mention here that four employees were transferred from Sindh Home Department on the basis of an incomplete report of Special Branch. Apart from these, Additional Secretary Ghulam Ali Soomro and Wasim Zaidi, have saved their favorite employees by transferring six other employees through a misleading report.
