DHAKA: A controversy has erupted ahead of the T20 match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on November 19, after the visitors’ flag placed during a practice session in Dhaka has upset the Bangladeshi citizens.

Pakistan head coach Saqlain Mushtaq on Tuesday continued the trend of carrying his country’s national flag for training to boost the morale of the squad.

The move has angered the local cricket fans and they are demanding the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to take strong action and cancel the upcoming series. Bangladeshi fans were agitated with the fact that the visitors broke the protocol by hoisting their national flag in the Mirpur ground.

Fans took to Twitter to show their displeasure and disappointment. A Bangladeshi fan asked the Pakistan team to go back o Pakistan. “Go back Pakistan. Bangladesh should stop the series. Ban any kind of Pakistani flag in Bangladesh,” the user wrote on Twitter.

“Different countries have come to Bangladesh innumerable times, many matches have been played but neither party needed to practise burying their national flag on the ground. But why did they do that… What does it indicate?” an angry fan tweeted.

The men’s cricket team is in Bangladesh after a gap of five years. Along with the T20is, they will play two ICC World Test Championship matches as well. The national side’s tour is part of the Future Tours Programme and follows the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.

After the T20Is, the two teams will travel to Chattogram for the first of the two Tests at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium from November 26-30. The two teams will then return to Dhaka to play the final Test, which will start from December 4.
