ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Sunday asserted that the electoral reforms were part of the national agenda and not of a particular individual or party.
Taking to Twitter, the Information Minister said that electoral reforms were not “the agenda of [Prime Minister] Imran Khan or [ruling] Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf [PTI],” but were a national agenda.

Fawad Chaudhry maintained that all political parties should move forward towards electoral reforms. “It will be a great success for our political system if an electoral system is set up under which all the leaders are able to trust election results,” he added.
Speaking to Geo News programme Naya Pakistan on Saturday, Fawad Chaudhry asserted that objections on the electoral reforms bill by the allied parties of the ruling PTI might be a result of internal differences among the political parties.
He said that the ministers representing the allied parties were taken onboard when the draft of the bill was presented before the Cabinet for approval. “Even the bill was drafted by Law Minister Farogh Nasim, who himself is from an ally, MQM, and another federal minister from the party, Aminul Haq is looking into the technical aspect of the EVMs,” Fawad added.
Similarly, he mentioned the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) as it, too, had representation in the Cabinet. The minister recalled that the allied parties had supported the bill passage when it was tabled in the National Assembly in June.
Earlier this week, it was reported that three of the allies had expressed reservations about recognising the EVM bill, during a meeting the government had convened to take on board its coalition partners over the electoral reforms.
