NOWSHERA: The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suffered a setback as  Federal Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak’s nephew joined the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP).

The defence minister’s nephew Ahad Khattak along with his associates announced to leave the PTI after consultation with his political allies and formally joined the PPP.

PPP central general secretary Nayyar Hussain Bukhari welcomed Ahad Khattak at a press conference in Nowshera. PPP provincial president Najmuddin Khan and other party leaders were also present on the occasion.

Ahad Khattak is the son of MPA Liaquat Khattak was recently suspended from the party. Liaquat had developed serious differences with his brother Pervez Khattak after his son failed to get a PTI ticket to contest the PK-63 by-election from Nowshera.

Liaquat Khattak eventually supported Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate in defiance during the by-polls which the PTI lost as result. Liaquat Khattak was expelled from the provincial cabinet for supporting the PML-N candidate and suspended from the party.

On the occasion, Ahad Khattak thanked PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for accommodating him in the party, saying the PPP gave respect to him and the majority of the people support him from the constituency.

He alleged that the government was victimising its political rivals in Nowshera. He said that PTI did not fulfil its commitments made with the people during the general elections.

PPP’s Nayyar Bukhari welcomed Ahad Khattak in the party, termed it a big change in the politics of Nowshera and said that youth would play a role in the politics of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Bukhari said that PPP would pull the country out of the prevailing crises under the leadership of Bilawal.

He said that PPP performed very well in the recent cantonment board elections and would also win next general elections. He assured that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto will address in Manki Sharif of Nowshera on November 19.
