The parents of Zahir Jaffer, prime accused in the Noor Mukadam murder case recently approached the Supreme Court for post-arrest bail after the IHC rejected their bail plea, remarking that the daughter of the former Pakistani ambassador could have survived if the parents had cooperated.
It may be noted here that a sessions court in Islamabad will also hear the case of the Noor Mukadam murder case today in which Zahir Jaffer and 11 other accused in the case will appear before the court. The trial court will charge Zahir Jaffer, his parents, and the other accused.
Despite being their bail plea being turned down continuously by the court, the parents of the main accused Zahir Jaffer continue to approach the Supreme Court. Will this case take a new turn?
The case
Noor Mukadam, a 27-year-old woman, was raped and murdered with a sharp instrument on July 20 within the limits of the Kohsar police station in Islamabad. A case of murder was later registered at the same police station by Noor’s father, former Pakistani ambassador Shaukat Ali Mukadam.
Zahir Jaffer is the prime suspect in Noor Mukadam’s murder case. The horrible murder, in which Mukadam was beheaded, took place on July 20 in Islamabad’s F-7 area. The Islamabad police arrested suspect Zahir Jaffer on the night of July 20 from his house where, according to Noor’s parents, he killed her with a sharp instrument and severed her head.
Parent’s bail plea
The parents of Zahir, Asmat Adamjee, and Zakir Jaffer have been accused of trying to hide the murder of Noor Mukadam to protect their son. On 29th September, the Islamabad High Court issued a detailed judgment on their bail petitions. It ruled that Zahir’s parents will stay in jail until the case trial is completed.
This was the second time when their bail was turned down. Now, Zahir Jaffer’s parents have once again filed an appeal in the top court against the decision of the Islamabad High Court.
IHC’s detailed verdict
The judgment in the bail plea stated that both Asmat Adamjee and Zakir Jaffer did not inform the police despite having knowledge of the crime.
According to the watchman, he had informed Zakir Jaffer. Moreover, Zahir Jaffer, too, admitted that he had informed his father before the murder.
In the detailed judgment, the court wrote that whether the statement of Zahir Jaffer is admissible or not is to be decided by the trial court. It said Zakir Jaffer spoke to the owner of the Therapy Works after the watchman’s report and moreover, no attempt was made to inform the police even after the institute was informed.
The court remarked that the bail may be denied in certain circumstances even if the offense is bailable especially when there is a possibility that the accused can influence witnesses or tamper with the evidence. The court added that records show that Zahir Jaffer’s parents tried to hide the evidence and clear the crime scene.
Police submit challan
In September, the police submitted the challan to a sessions court in Islamabad that stated Noor Mukadam lost six life-saving opportunities due to the active connivance of the accomplices of the principal accused, Zahir, in her murder. “Her life could have been saved had the accomplices acted otherwise,” it noted.
Any new turn?
With almost three months to the murder case, family, friends, and citizens of Pakistan still await justice in the murder case of Noor Mukadam. Be it any court; Supreme Court or High Court, people are seeking justice for Noor Mukadam.
