KARACHI: The Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) on Sunday forecast hot and humid weather in Karachi till September 14, predicting that the temperature might reach up to 39 degrees Celsius.
“Yesterday’s low over Rajasthan has shifted to the east with its trough extending westwards,” according to PMD’s weather outlook. Due to this, isolated rains, along with thunderstorms, may occur in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, and Badin, it added.
However, Karachi would experience hot and humid weather, with the minimum temperature expected to be 26°C while the maximum temperature could go up to 39 degrees Celsius.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz has said that due to reduced sea breezes and hot desert winds from Balochistan blowing towards the city, the temperature may rise.
Sarfaraz added that the heatwave would be caused by low air pressure in the Bay of Bengal, and that a new monsoon cycle, from September 17, could cause rain in the city that may last till September 20.
Sindh experienced its first heatwave of the season at the end of March, followed by a second in April during which the temperature in the metropolis soared to 43.6°C. According to the Met department, it was the hottest day of April in 18 years in Karachi.
