Two passenger planes crashed into the skyscrapers of the World Trade Center in New York, causing the buildings to collapse. Just over an hour later, another hijacked Boeing 757 crashed into Pentagon headquarters, partially destroying the Pentagon. Half an hour later, news came that another plane, which was being hijacked and taken to the White House, was also a Boeing 757, which was shot down by fighter jets in Pennsylvania.
Consequences
The attack on the World Trade Center killed 2,977 people. At the same time, the United States and its supporters suffered a financial crisis. As news of the attacks spread, world oil and gold prices soared, and the European currency, the euro, lost ground against the dollar.

Motive behind the attack
Al-Qaeda had planned the attack many years ago and the result was finally witnessed globally on September 11, 2001. As the effects of the civil war in Afghanistan diminished somewhat, al Qaeda turned its attention to the United States, which needed a major upheaval.
