KARACHI: A fire at a chemical factory in Mehran Town has left several families devastated, leaving a total of 16 people dead, including nine from the same neighborhood, while the investigation report of the fire revealed alarming revelations.
According to details, a terrible fire at a chemical factory in Korangi claimed 16 lives. Workers were burned to death because of suffocation. There were 26 people on the ground floor of the factory at the time of the fire.
According to the investigation report, no one, who was trapped on the first floor of the building affected by the fire, was able to get out. The fire at the factory at 10 a.m. spread rapidly due to chemicals. Iron grills were installed on all the windows of the factory.

According to the report, the absence of an emergency exit in the factory increased the death toll. The door on the roof was locked. Attempts to break the lock were unsuccessful. Attempts to break the grill on the windows also failed. After the incident was reported, there was a complaint about the late arrival of the fire brigade. Police have hinted to file a case against the factory owners under the Criminal Act. Terrible fire snatched 3 sons from a father in Usmanabad.
Nine people from the same neighborhood died in the blaze. Funeral prayers of 8 persons including 3 deceased brothers have been offered in which a large number of political and religious personalities and residents of the area participated.
Media reports have also revealed that the chemical factory in Mehran Town was built illegally on a residential plot and the Sindh Building Control Authority did not take any action which led to this horrific accident.
The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) dumped all the wreckage of the incident on the SBCA. Spokesperson Sindh Government and Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that factory owners and officials of concerned agencies are responsible for all the shortcomings.
The rescue operation was completed at the Mehran Town factory while PTI leaders Haleem Adil Sheikh and others slammed the Sindh government and blamed the chief minister and provincial ministers for the incident.
