How to raise voice against Indian brutalities in occupied Kashmir?

Youm-e-Istehsal observed to express solidarity with oppressed people

Two years after the status of Indian Occupied Kashmir was changed by the government of Narendra Modi, removing the limited autonomy it enjoyed under the Indian constitution, the miseries of its people continue.

According to reports collected by international agencies, over 500 people have been killed in 2020 and 2019. Three thousand people are under arrest, including 200 politicians, and though internet services were restored to the area in August 2020 on the orders of the Indian Supreme Court, there is no let up in efforts to change the demography of the region.

Pakistan continues to raise its voice in the UN and at the other forums. But so far, while the European Union has made clear its objection, as has the UN, there appears to be no change in Indian policy.

Now, it’s time for us to raise our voice against the Indian atrocities on an individual level, but how. Here’s the answer:

Use social media

Social media is a powerful communications medium, with widespread influence all over the world. We have seen just how much social media can create change, for example the case of Noor Mukadam. We can raise our voice and urged the international community to act against the India’s brutality in Occupied Kashmir.

Participate in protests

Several organizations, including political parties, student bodies and civil society, organized protest in solidarity with Kashmiri people. We should participate in such protests for a bigger impact and express solidarity with the Kashmiris.

Raise awareness

Public awareness is important to increase enthusiasm and support, stimulate self-mobilisation and action, and mobilise local knowledge and resources. We should organize sessions or hold talks within our community to raise awareness regarding the Indian atrocities on Kashmiri people.

Online petitions

Petitions are a way to make our voices heard. Whether it’s campaigning for social and political change, or to raise awareness of local issues, petitions show support for a specific idea.

An online petition demanding justice for George Floyd gathered more than 18 million signatures in a month. Just like this, we can start an online petition and point out the Indian brutalities on Kashmiris.

Donation

Since the ruthless lockdown imposed in occupied Kashmir, many people globally are protesting against the act and working to compile a list of verified sources to help people there. Some organization, including Kashmir Appeal or Kashmir – Ummah Welfare Trust, can be reached out that are helping Kashmiri people providing medical aid and food.
