ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has strongly condemned India’s role in keeping Pakistan on the grey list in the FATF, while the move came after India admitted its conspiracy against Pakistan.
According to details, India has confessed to conspiring against Pakistan in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Indian Foreign Minister J. Shankar said that India had ensured that Pakistan could not get out of the grey list.
On the other hand, Pakistan has repeatedly stated that forums like the FATF should not be used for political purposes. FATF’s contradictory policy against Pakistan was exposed globally.
Instead of rejecting India’s conspiracies, the Financial Action Task Force has kept Pakistan on the grey list despite implementing 78 percent of the recommendations. Russia’s implementation rate is 63 percent, yet it is on the white list.
Jordan is on the white list with only 48 percent implementation of the recommendations. Sri Lanka also failed to comply with 22.5 percent of the FATF’s recommendations. FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that India was using FATF for political purposes.
Condemning India’s role in the FATF, the Foreign Minister said that the issue had been raised with the international body before. Pakistan is a partner in the peace process. A small section of Afghanistan does not want a conference in Pakistan.
The foreign minister said that India also wanted the Afghan peace conference not to be held in Pakistan. India is trying to make matters worse. Technical forums like FATF are being used for political purposes.
Earlier, FM Qureshi said that FATF was a technical forum that should not be used for political purposes. He said that we will continue to work to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing in our own interests.
In his statement on the FATF, the situation in Afghanistan and the South Punjab Secretariat last month, the foreign minister said, “I have made my position on the FATF clear to the entire nation.”
