KARACHI: Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab slammed Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry for seeking audit of allocated funds, saying that the federal government wasn’t doing favour by allocating money.
“You are not doing us any favours by giving us money. It is not your father’s money, this is our constitutional right,” the spokesperson said while addressing a press conference in Karachi today (Sunday).
The provincial government spokesperson regretted that the federal ministers ridicule the Sindh government for not giving any authority to the local governments. He said that the PTI government did not let any local government work across Pakistan.
Murtaza Wahab claimed that the federal government had a liking for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief ministers because they remain silent. “Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah is not liked by the federal government as he does not remain quiet,” he added.
Wahab also slammed the federal government for the allocations made in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). He said schemes for KP, Balochistan and Punjab are visible in the PSDP allocation but Sindh, “which fuels the country’s economy, does not even have the allocation for a single project in the programme”.
The spokesperson also shared that Governor Sindh Imran Ismail has rejected the Sindh Protection of Journalists and Other Media Practitioners Bill 2021 that was approved by the Sindh Assembly. He said that the assembly will once again pass the bill and send it back to the governor for approval.
Earlier in the day, Fawad Chaudhry once again lashed out at Pakistan People’s Party, saying that the Sindh’s rulers were responsible for what he dubbed as the province’s derelict condition.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi today (Sunday), the federal minister claimed that the Pakistan People’s Party was Sindh’s enemy and their days were numbered. “In Sindh, there is a dictatorship under the guise of democracy and that is why people here have been deprived of their rights,” he added.
Fawad Chaudhry further said that the funds given to the provincial government by the Centre ended up either in Dubai, Canada or Europe. He was alluding to money laundering cases filed against PPP leaders, including the party’s co-chairperson, Asif Ali Zardari.
