ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry today (Saturday) has lambasted the PPP-led provincial government for having neglected the development work in Sindh.
“The situation would have been better if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) had formed a government in the province,” Fawad Chaudhry said while addressing a press conference in Karachi. “Nothing good will come of leaving the province at the mercy of Murad Ali Shah and Company,” he claimed.
The Information Minister further said that former president Asif Ali Zardari has confined Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s party to interior Sindh. “The funds given to Sindh are not spent on the people,” Fawad added.
“The province needs local governments more than any other province of the country,” he said, adding that if Karachi’s mayor directly gets funds — instead of the provincial government providing it to them — then the situation in the metropolis could improve.
In addition, the minister said the Sindh government had not introduced new schemes for Karachi and held CM Shah responsible for the city’s problems. ” Sindh government has not been able to provide the necessary equipment to its police,” he said, adding that the Supreme Court should take notice of Sindh’s dismal state.
Talking about electoral reforms, Fawad said PTI’s position was clear and it aspired to give voting rights to overseas Pakistanis. “We have taken steps on making elections transparent,” he added.
‘Do not make East India Company here’: CM Murad tells Centre
Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah lashed out at PTI-led federal government over alleged bias in allocating development funds, saying that “don’t make an East India Company here”.
The Chief Minister said, “Don’t treat Sindh in this way and don’t create two Pakistans. We will no longer tolerate it, we will resist.” He further said that the federal government was spending money on the provinces.
However, he said, at least consult with the provincial government and look at the priorities. “We are the representatives, consult with us,” he added.
“It is not a good thing that you are going to union councils to make roads and drains under the prime minister’s programme,” he added. CM Murad also said that schemes were allocated in the PDSP without informing the province due to “pressure”.
“During one of the meetings, a gentleman said that their hands were tied due to pressure from MNAs and MPAs. This is contempt of court,” he said, adding that the Supreme Court had said funds could not be given to MNAs and MPAs.
