ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has said that the federal cabinet decided to constitute a committee to review the ban imposed on the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

While addressing a press conference along with federal minister Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry said the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday. He said once the committee reviews TLP’s application seeking to lift the ban, it will furnish recommendations to the cabinet.

Earlier, the banned TLP approached the Ministry of Interior to lift the ban imposed on it after it was outlawed on April 15, 2021, over allegations of disturbing the peace and interfering in the state’s affairs through protests.

In April, the federal government had imposed a ban on the organization under the anti-terrorism law. The proscribed TLP’s protests caused issues for the people in April across the country and had claimed the lives of three people, including two policemen.

In today’s press conference, the information minister said the cabinet approved a special China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) business visa to facilitate Chinese investors in the country.

He informed the step would enable Chinese investors to get their visas within 48 hours. Overseas voters are an essential part of the government’s electoral reforms he said, adding that the ECP should take instant measures to make them part of the country’s electoral process.

The federal minister said the cabinet lauded improvement in the ties between Turkey and Saudi Arabia as it will be beneficial for Muslim Ummah. He also said PM Imran praised Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi for successfully raising the Palestine issue at international forums.

The cabinet approved Cantonment Board Elections and directed the Ministry of Defence to make all arrangements in this regard, Fawad informed. He further informed that the cabinet also gave approval to a new board of directors for the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV).

Secretary information will be the chairperson of PTV’s new board, while director-general Radio Pakistan has also been included in its members.

On this occasion,  Asad Umar said PM Imran’s strategy of protecting lives and livelihood during coronavirus has saved the economy from suffering losses.

As per data provided by the National Accounts Committee, the government is expecting more than a 3.5% gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate, he said.

The Prime Minister personally monitor the construction and agriculture sectors, adding that Pakistan had historic production of three out of four crops, Asad Umar added.
