KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Karachi chapter staged a protest outside the Karachi Press Club, demanding the release of Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh and against alleged fake cases registered against their party leaders and workers.

PTI leaders Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Khurram Sher Zaman, Bilal Ghaffar, Saeed Afridi, Ramzan Ghanchi, Jamal Siddiqui, Raja Azhar, Arsalan Taj, Riaz Haider, Dr Imran Shah, Shehzad Qureshi,  Jai Prakash Lohana, Adeel Ahmed, Rabia Azfar Nizami, Sidra Imran and a large number of activists participated.

Addressing the protest, senior PTI MPA Firdous Shamim Naqvi said that by imposing terrorism charges on Haleem Adil, the Sindh government has proven that it is afraid of him. He lashed out at the Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government saying that “goons, terrorists and criminals rule this province.”

Naqvi questioned why Haleem’s farmhouses were razed when there were stay orders against their demolition. He said it was Haleem’s car that was fired and yet it was Haleem against whom an FIR was lodged. He said a PPP worker opened fire at PTI’s Ramzan Ghanchi but was not arrested.

He maintained that the protestors did not wish to disturb peace in the city while the Pakistan Super League was being held. However, he warned the provincial government that the PTI would surround the Chief Minister’s House and Bilawal House as soon as the matches conclude if Haleem is not released.

PTI Karachi President and MPA Khurram Sher Zaman said that the Sindh government should lodge terrorism cases against those who violate peace in the city. He condemned Haleem’s arrest and the registration of false cases against him.

PTI lawmaker Bilal Ghaffar claimed that party leaders and workers were being punished for participating in the by-polls in Malir’s PS-88 and exposing PPP’s corruption. He announced a protest against the PPP and the arrest of Haleem on February 25
