ISLAMABAD: Pakistan sanitary workers have staged a protest against the non-payment of salaries in Islamabad on Saturday.
Several employees chanted slogans against the administrations saying they would continue their protests daily basis until they get salaries.
The employees said they served the nation for many years in different institutions, but were not paid for three months. They said due to the financial crisis the workers were unable to have treatment for ailments and to marry their children off.
Sanitation workers’ leader former federal minister J Salik talking to MM News said, “Employees of all departments working in the CDA are permanent while we have not been able to make permanent the workers who have been working in sanitation for twenty years, which is a total injustice,” he added.
He strongly condemned government policies and said that the COVID-19 situation has broken their back. Prime Minister Imran Khan is only giving statements and has done nothing to address public grievances,” he lamented.
“We have not paid the rent yet, we have not been able to pay the electricity and gas bills, we have now received notices to cut the gas, electricity and water connections,” the workers said.
The employees demanded immediate payment of their salaries, adding that local government workers could not live without salaries, so if the issue was not resolved immediately, they will compel to launch a protest campaign.
