ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz has urged the government to resolve the issue of ‘purportedly’ missing persons, saying that it is the duty of the state to take care of its citizens.
She expressed her views while talking to journalists at Islamabad’s D-Chowk where the families of missing persons have staged a sit-in outside the National Press Club, demanding the recovery of their loved ones.
Urging the top military leadership to resolve the matter, Maryam Nawaz said, “I want to say this to the army chief and DG ISI as well: They are citizens of your country, they are your daughters, your mothers.”
“Come talk to them. Resolve the issues that can be solved. Produce the people who are alive in courts and those who are not alive at least tell them the families that they are not alive,” the PML-N vice president added.
She further said the government should inform relatives of the missing persons of their fate, adding that victims are victims, they should not be associated with any province. “The prime minister should come to the D-Chowk and talk to the protesters,” she added.
“You don’t have to answer the agencies, you have to answer God. This 22 million population is your responsibility,” she said, reiterating her stance that if a missing person is guilty of any crime, they should be tried in court.
She also said, “The PTI government made tall claims before coming into power. Later, compulsions come in the way,” adding that everyone in the country, from doctors to lady health workers, was on the streets demanding justice.
