KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has secured an unbeatable lead in Karachi’s PS-88 by-polls after unconfirmed and unverified results from 42 polling stations of the constituency.
There are twenty candidates were taking part in the by-elections in Karachi’s PS-88 Malir. The main contests are Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Jansher Junejo and Muhammad Yousuf Baloch from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
According to unconfirmed unofficial results, the results of 42 polling stations of PS-88 have come out. PPP candidate Yousuf Baloch is leading with 19539 votes while PTI candidate John Sher Junejo is in second place with 3305 votes.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) candidate Sajid Ahmed, Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan’s (TLP) Syed Kashif Ali and sixteen independent candidates are also contesting the by-polls.
The constituency has a total of 145,627 registered voters including 81,425 male and 64,202 female voters. The election commission has set up 108 polling stations, while 33 have been declared ‘most sensitive’ and 27 ‘sensitive’ during the by-election.
Strict security arrangements have been made during the by-polls as Rangers personnel are performing security duty outside the polling stations while police officials are deployed inside the polling stations. However, During the polling, the situation remained tense in some polling stations PPP and PTI workers have clashed.
On the orders of the Election Commission opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh expelled from the PS-88 constituency. According to sources, opposition leader Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has been transferred to CIA Center. Meanwhile, PTI leaders staged a protest against the arrest of Haleem Adil Sheikh.
Meanwhile, PPP candidate Jam Shabbir Ali clinched victory on a provincial assembly seat PS-43-Sanghar-III in by-polls.
According to unofficial results from all 132 polling stations, PPP candidate Jam Shabbir Ali secured 48,028 votes as compared to the runner-up, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate who bagged 6,925 votes.
At least seven candidates took part in the by-election on vacant Sindh Assembly seat from Sanghar. The polling started at 8:00 am and ended at 5:00 pm peacefully. The seat had fallen vacant after PPP’s Jam Madad Ali passed away due to coronavirus complications in November last year.
