KARACHI: The Sindh government has initiated a crackdown against profiteers across the province and fined those overcharging daily commodities.
The price control magistrates of different districts raided various shopping centers and markets and fined a large number of vendors overcharging for vegetables, fruits, chicken and groceries in different parts of the metropolis. According to the price control magistrates, during the crackdown profiteers were fined millions of rupees across Sindh.
The officials said profiteers overcharging daily commodities like vegetables; fruit, chicken, and grocery were fined. Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh for Bureau of Supply and Prices Dr. Khatu Mil Jeewan has said that crackdown against illegal profiteers and hoarders will continue across the province.
He said, “District administration officers are working across the province to ensure full implementation of the official tariff and sale of standard items. Officers from the Bureau of Supply and Prices are also assisting the district administration,” he added.
Dr. Khatu Mil said that so far during the current financial year, more than one 100,000 shopkeepers, fruit and vegetable sellers and sellers of other items have been checked across the province, while more than 7,300 profiteers across the province have been fined.
He said in the Karachi division 1,300 profiteers were fined more than Rs. 76,064,000, in Hyderabad more than 1,200 profiteers were fined Rs. 1,532,000 while the rest of the province More than 4,300 profiteers in different districts were also fined.
The Special Assistant said “There is no shortage of food items in the province. The government will hold the profiteers and hoarders to account,” he warned.
