ISLAMABAD: An inter-ministerial committee, constituted by Prime Minister Imran Khan to investigate the Broadsheet LLC saga, has been tasked to present its finding in 45 days.
This was announced by Federal Information Minister Shibli Faraz, who also heads the committee, during a press conference in Islamabad today (Tuesday). He was flanked by committee members, Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari.
“Newly formed inquiry committee will find out main characters who illegally benefitted themselves,” said Shibli Faraz, adding the committee will submit its report in 45 days. “Accountability cannot be one-sided. Nor is it a choice,” he added.
Shibli Faraz further said the committee will be comprised of a former judge of High Court or Supreme Court, a senior officer from FIA, Attorney General Office, a senior lawyer and any officer nominated by the Prime Minister.
The information minister said that the government will probe all names that surfaced in the London High Court judgment. “Corruption investigations are underway against PPP leadership,” he revealed.
Commenting on PDM’s protest in front of Election Commission Office, Shibli Faraz expressed gratitude to the people of twin cities for rejecting the narrative of opposition.
Taking over the presser, Fawad Chaudhary said that Broadsheet was assigned to search illegal assets of Pakistanis in Asia, America and Europe. “The company exposed the illegal properties of Sharif family in different countries,” he claimed.
He also said that initially, the accountability bureau had given a list of 200 individuals that needed to be probed. “The tale of corruption in Pakistan is incomplete without Ishaq Dar. He was obviously among the 200 individuals,” he added.
“Assets worth $114 million owned by the Sharif family have been traced,” he said, adding that the Sharif family owned properties in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, UK and the United Arab Emirates.
