ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the leaders of the Pakistan Democratic Movement were trying to blackmail the government and its institutions to get relief from corruption cases against them.
Presiding over a meeting of government and his party spokesperson, PM Imran said that the opposition parties have taken themselves to the blind alley in their lust for power and to save themselves from accountability. “They are strangling the future of their political career with their own hands,” he added.
The PML-N was only misleading the masses and pursuing a narrative that had nothing to do with reality, PM said, “They have done nothing for the country, except pursuing anti-people policies,” he added.
The PM also said that the public gatherings of the opposition also demonstrate their indifference to the health and lives of the people. “The opposition is hatching conspiracies against the democracy by declaring they will not allow the Senate elections,” he added.
“The people are fully cognizant of their past and they will not allow them to repeat the dark period when the country was put in the debt trap and the institutions were paralyzed,” PM Imran remarked.
The prime minister said that the opposition would have ended its protest if the governed had accepted their proposals pertaining to the amendment in NAB’s law.
The opposition did not take part in any legislation during the past two and half years, PM Imran said, adding that they used the Parliament for their personal interests. He said that they could never misguide the masses by speaking lies.
“Now the opposition was putting pressure on the army as they knew that I will never grant them national reconciliation ordinance (NRO).” the prime minister added.
Separately, Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to mobilize all resources to provide affordable electricity to the consumers.
Addressing an Energy sector review meeting in Islamabad today, he said the government is fully focused on meeting the energy needs of all sectors.
The Prime Minister was given a detailed briefing on the current situation in the energy sector to which the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction.
Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan, Special Assistant Tabish Gohar and Secretary Energy briefed about the improvement in the power distribution system.
The Minister also apprised the Prime Minister about the current situation of circular debt. Referring to the Renewable Energy Policy, Omar Ayub said that this policy has boosted the confidence of investors.
