KARACHI: Sindh continued to witness a rise in COVID-19 infections as 27 deaths and 1,292 fresh cases, mostly in Karachi, emerged in the province during the last 24 hours.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that 27 patients of COVID-19 lost their lives lifting the death toll to 2,962 that constituted a 1.7 percent death rate.
He said from November to December 1, 2020, the deaths of 27 patients in a day were the highest during the on-going second wave of the pandemic, adding “may God have mercy on our people.” Shah said that 9,752 samples were tested which diagnosed 1,292 cases that constituted 13.2 percent current detection rate.
So far 1,994,516 tests have been conducted against which 175,642 cases were detected, of the 87 percent or 153,642 patients have recovered, including 1043 overnight, he added.
The CM said that currently 19,038 patients were under treatment, of the 18,218 were in home isolation, 12 at isolation centers and 808 at different hospitals. He added that the condition of 716 patients was stated to be critical, including 72 shifted to ventilators.
Murad Ali Shah said that out of 1,292 new cases, have been detected from Karachi, including 340 East, 243 South, 213 Central, 104 Malir, 63 Korangi and 26 West.
He added that Hyderabad has 76 new cases, Mirpurkhas 36, Jamshoro 31, Matiari 21, Badin 18, Shaheed Benazirabad 14, Ghotki and Thatta 11 each, Sukkur nine, Tando Allahyar five, Jacobabad six, Larkana and Umerkot three each, Shikarpur two, Dadu, Khairpur, Sanghar and Sujawal one each.
The CM warned people to observe standard operating procedures, stay home, wear masks while going out, wash hands, avoid handshakes, otherwise, the wave seems to be dangerous. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan has crossed the grim 400,000 landmarks.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan recorded 2,458 new COVID-19 cases and 67 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours.
With the fresh inclusion of the infections in the country, the national tally of cases now currently stands at 400,482 while the death toll has 8,091. A further 2,165 patients are in critical condition while 1,863 patients have recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours.
The positivity rate of COVID-19 cases reaches up to 5.9 percent during 24 hours. The total count of active cases increased up to 49,105. A total of 40,969 tests were conducted across the country during this period. 343,286 people have recovered from the deadly disease while 5,549,779 samples have been tested.
