LAHORE: The Punjab government today (Tuesday) has decided to register cases against the organizers of the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) Multan public gathering.

“Among the organizers, 22 belong to PML-N, 16 to PPP, and 13 are of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F),” Chief Minister Buzdar’s special assistant Firdous Ashiq Awan said while addressing a press conference.

The development comes a day after the 11-party opposition held a massive rally in Multan despite the government’s repeated warnings against doing so, urging the alliance to postpone the rally in wake of increasing COVID-19 cases.

In today’s press conference, the CM’s special assistant said that the cases will be registered against unidentified persons as well. Talking about the fire that had erupted during the Multan rally, she said, “We have uncovered the reason behind the fire that had taken place during the Maryam’s speech.”

Firdous Awan claimed that the fire had erupted due to a PML-N worker’s fireworks. She also lashed out at PDM chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman, saying that everyone knows Maulana’s pain, he’s sitting outside the assembly for the first time.

She cited a video from the jalsa, stating that the PDM chief had instructed his workers to get into a fight with police. Awan further said that the Parliament does not function to satisfy an individual’s desires.

Shedding lights on the government’s future course of action regarding PDM’s rally, Firdous Awan told that it will be decided according to the situation that evolves in Lahore.

Development projects

The CM’s special assistant informed that the government was pursuing a digitalization policy to bring solid reforms in all institutions including Directorate General Public Relations.

She said that proposal for setting up the Punjab Information Academy will be submitted to the Chief Minister soon. Firdous also informed that CM Buzdar has accorded approval for the establishment of a modern Bus Terminal at Thoker Niaz Baig in Lahore.

“The government is launching electric buses to reduce environmental pollution and smog while the scope of Lahore Transport Company will be extended to every city of Punjab to facilitate the masses,” she added.
