ISLAMABAD: Days after being appointed to the position, Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) Director-General Engineering Sabih-ul-Hassan started to repair bridges and roads across the city.
A gap created in the expansion joint of Liaquatabad Number 10 flyover has been fixed. The bridge connects the area of Liaquatabad, Karimabad and Ayesha Manzil and was the cause of several accidents for motorcyclists.
Sabih-ul-Hassan was appointed on the directives of Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shallwani. The previous administration had failed to repair roads and bridges since the past few months which had worsened by the recent torrential rains.
Repair work on the bridge on Jehangir Road connecting Teen Hatti with Liaquatabad Post Office has also commenced. The pavement and the metal grill on the flyover are also being repaired.

It has been known that previous DG Engineer Iqtidar Ahmed had received directives from Karachi Administrator to repair roads and bridges. The officer did not follow orders stating that funds were not received and was subsequently dismissed.
In the past two years, the KMC has been issued only two out of eight installments of funds by the Sindh government which has affected the payments to contractors. The newly appointed director-general has convinced contractors to continue work despite the severe financial crisis faced by the municipality.
Sabih-ul-Hassan said the Sindh government has not released the remaining six installments, however, they will continue to resolve the problems facing by the city. The Sindh government owes Rs325 million to the municipality.
