KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started another inquiry against the former National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Saeed Ahmed.
As per details, a joint investigation team of the anti-corruption watchdog has sought records from the NBP Board of Director’s secretary. An investigation is already underway against Saeed Ahmed over illegal appointments and promotions.
In 2017, Ahmed had allegedly appointed several persons in the bank on the advice of influential political leaders.
NAB investigators have also sought details of promotions awarded to OG-III officers to SEVP position, besides approval notes of the NBP board of directors.
The details of the legal process for making appointments and promotions in NBP were also sought by the investigators.
The anti-corruption watchdog asked the NBP management to provide records regarding advertisements for appointments and regulations for finalizing the salaries of the employees.
In August 2018, the federal cabinet had suspended the National Bank of Pakistan President Saeed Ahmad on the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request.
Ahmad was co-accused in a supplementary money-laundering case with two other persons. The case had been filed in an accountability court.
The NAB took a plea in letters written to the finance ministry that Ahmad could influence the ongoing investigations.
The cabinet approved the removal of National Bank of Pakistan President Saeed Ahmed Khan citing a pending case against him for his alleged involvement in money laundering of billions of rupees.
