ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning Asad Umar has warned of serious consequences of not adhering to coronavirus related SOPs.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the federal minister said the daily COVID-19 death rate spiked to 140 percent last week as compared with the mortality rate recorded a few weeks back.
“Last week daily covid mortality was 12. This is a 140% increase vs few weeks back. We are collectively committing a blunder by recklessly ignoring all sop’s & the results have started to show.”
“If we do not change our current path we will lose both lives and livelihoods,” Asad Umar warned.

The minister, who also heads the National Command and Control Centre, has earlier warned that it’s time for all of us to take coronavirus SOPs seriously as the number of cases is rising in the country.
He stated that coronavirus positivity is extremely high in Muzaffarabad, remains high in Karachi and is rising in Lahore and Islamabad.
“Now, this is the high-time for all of us to take COVID-19 SOPs seriously again. Otherwise, unfortunately, we may have to take restrictive actions that have negative effects on people’s livelihoods,” Asad Umar added.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also warned that a second wave of the novel coronavirus may hit cities with high pollution levels during winter season.
Addressing the Clean-Green Index Encouragement awards distribution ceremony, the prime minister said that ‘pollution becomes stagnant in the atmosphere’ during the winter and caused diseases.
He feared of a second coronavirus spike in cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Gujranwala in the winter.
Highlighting his government’s effective strategy about COVID-19, the prime minister said that the world praised Pakistan’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
