Sher Zaman lauds Sindh Police for lodging FIR against Capt (R) Safdar

KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Khurrum Sher Zaman has commended the Sindh Police for lodging a first information report (FIR) against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar.

Addressing a press conference along Advisor on Maritime Affairs Mahmood Moulvi, the PTI leader said the government will not allow anyone to speak against the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Zaman claimed Safdar was walking on the Quaid’s grave, chanting slogans of “vote ko izzat do” respect the vote. Criticizing the opposition parties the PTI leader said “they have no interest in the country” and added that Rs60 to Rs70 crores were spent on the rally held in Karachi a day before.

Zaman also said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rallies proved that they had nothing to do with the people.

“Surprisingly no mention of Sindh was made in yesterday’s rally. While standing on stage, Bilawal did not mention the lack of drinking water in the province or that there is no treatment taking place at hospitals in Sindh,” he added.

Zaman also condemned the words used by the former premier for the army chief. “The words used by Nawaz Sharif against the army chief are reprehensible,” he said.

The minister also lashed out at the provincial government after Sindh Police first shared but later deleted a message which said that Safdar’s arrest was done in accordance with the law and that the investigation will be impartial.

Earlier,  PML-N senior leader and spokesperson for Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, Mohammad Zubair, claimed that Sindh Police arrested Safdar Awan under duress.

“All the drama was created to put blame on the PPP government,” Zubair claimed. “Sindh Chief Minister [Murad Ali Shah] has confirmed that immense pressure was put on the police.”

Zubair added that police are scared that they had closed the doors of the police station and not even allowing the lawyers to go in.

Safdar had been arrested Monday morning from the hotel after he was booked for violating the sanctity of the Mazar-e-Quaid. He was presented before a judicial magistrate in the afternoon where he was granted bail.
