KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail said that the federal government has completed the tender process for the procurement of buses for Green Line section of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Karachi.
The governor chaired a meeting of the Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Ltd (SIDCL) at the Governor House where he was briefed on the under-construction federally funded development projects in the province.
Ismail said the process of inviting tenders for purchasing buses for the Green Line section of the BRT had been completed and the contract for the purpose would be awarded in the next one to one-and-a-half months and the buses will arrrive the city in the next seven to eight months.
He added that 50 fire tenders and two bowsers for enhancing the firefighting capability of the fire brigade would be handed over to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation by March next year.
The governor stated that the federal government would install 42 reverse-osmosis water filtration plants in Thar and the process for inviting tenders for the purpose had been started. He said that 50 fire tenders would be handed over to Karachi Metropolitan Cooperation (KMC) in March 2021.
Sindh Assembly members Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Haleem Adil Shaikh, Khurrum Sher Zaman, Khawaja Izharul Hassan and Nusrat Seher Abbasi attended the meeting.
The Green Line BRT project with intersections is 24 kilometres long which includes 12.7 km elevated, 10.9 km at grade, and 422 meters underground and has 25 stations.
The state-of-art underground bus terminal with parking facility and the commercial mezzanine floor was being also being constructed at Numaish. The construction work on Phase-I was started in 2016 and is being partially funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
