ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday issued a notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan for attending the ceremony of a lawyer’s convention.
“The prime minister of Pakistan is the prime minister of the whole country, he can not associate himself with a particular group or a party,” the apex court noted.
The prime minister had attended the All Pakistan Insaf Lawyers Forum at the Convention Centre in Islamabad on 9th October.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa issued the notice to PM Imran Khan for attending the ceremony of a political party. Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan was also issued notice by the court.
Justice Isa expressed displeasure with Advocate General Punjab for skipping a case hearing and attending the programme. The judge said advocate generals represent the state and not political parties.
The apex court has also summoned Vice-Chairman Pakistan Bar Council, President Supreme Court Bar Association and Advocate General Punjab on the next hearing.
Justice Qazi Faez Isa said that prime ministers represent the whole country and not just one political party. “Why is the PM misusing state resources?” he asked. He questioned if political events can be held at the Convention Centre. “Did someone even pay the fee for booking the centre?”
Justice Isa said that he was referring the matter to the chief justice for suo motu notice tor form a bench and hear the case and added that the prime minister participated in the programme in his personal capacity.
