RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Chairman Citizen Action Committee, Zaheer Ahmad Awan has welcomed the decision to impose a ban on TikTok in Pakistan.
He said Pakistan has banned the Chinese social media app TikTok for failing to filter out “immoral and indecent” content. Zaheer Awan said, “Our social values and constitution of Pakistan does not allow such so-called free enlightenment which leads to moral depravity in the society”.
There was a long-standing demand of all Pakistani people that such type of app and website should be shut down immediately, he added.
He said all apps and pornographic websites should be shut down completely and PTA should form a special committee to monitor such apps so that the younger generation can be saved from moral degradation.
Earlier, the popular Chinese video app ‘TikTok’ had been banned in Pakistan over ‘obscene’ and ‘indecent’ content. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority on Friday banned the TikTok in view of complaints.
As per the authority, the app was given significant time to respond and comply with instructions to effectively moderate “unlawful online content”.
“However, the application failed to fully comply with the instructions, therefore, directions were issued for blocking of TikTok application in the country,” the statement said.
