ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Shibli Faraz has asserted that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was blackmailing the government and state institutions to hide his corruption.
“The government is determined to go after the corrupt people on any circumstances,” the information minister said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad today (Thursday).
He further said, “It is unfortunate that a three-time prime minister is making anti-state speeches,” adding that Nawaz Sharif failed to rule the country despite having three chances.
The federal minister asserted that PML-N supremo had made assets of billions of rupees abroad through money laundering. “Nawaz has ruined the country’s economy and institutions,” he added.
He urged the former Prime Minister to give an answer about his assets abroad and how he laundered money out of the country instead of beating about the bush. “Prime Minister Imran Khan has provided his money trail in the court, not it’s your (Nawaz) time,” remarked.
Shibli Faraz informed that the government and the judiciary while showing sympathy, allowed Nawaz to go abroad for medical treatment. “However, he (Nawaz) is busy in weakening the country,” he claimed.
Talking about Nawaz’s allegations of rigging in 2018 general elections, Shibli termed the opposition as professional liars. “In 2018 elections, 287 election petitions were filed and 90 of them were about NA constituencies. 45 of those 90 petitions were filed by PTI, where our candidates lost elections,” he informed.
“PML-N is misleading the people of Pakistan and they will not succeed in their nefarious designs,” he concluded.
