ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) has completed construction work on Islamabad’s sector G7 and 8 underpasses and made it operational for traffic.
According to sources, the project is a public welfare project and was long-awaited as it will connect the eastern and western sides of the city. The project will not only improve the flow of traffic on Faisal Avenue but connect Sector G-7 and G-8.
Sources said residents of both the sectors were facing severe difficulties in crossing the expressway while several accidents have taken place in this regard in which several people have been killed and many injured.
Sources said under the supervision of the present government, the Federal Development Agency released funds to solve this long-standing problem a year and a half ago and the underpass was completed after hectic effort.
“To address the long-standing problem, the previous government had approved the construction of an underpass connecting the two sectors due to lack of funds,” sources added.
Earlier, in order to ensure smooth traffic flow on the avenue, Chairman CDA had directed Engineering Wing to make a comprehensive traffic diversion plan prior to executing construction work on the underpass on Sector G-7 and G-8 in consultation with the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) as well as Transport & Traffic Planning Directorate (T&TP) CDA.
In this connection, in the first phase, machinery had been deployed by the contractor on Service Road (West) of Sector G-7 for its widening and thereafter traffic had diverted on the Service Road (West). Traffic emerging from Feisal Mosque had diverted to Service Road (West) of Sector G-7.
During the next phase, work on widening of the Service Road (East) of sector G-8 had carried out so that traffic emerging from Zero points and Kashmir Highway had diverted on it. Commuters traveling toward Jinnah Avenue, Margalla Road and Faisal Mosque instructed to use the Service Road (East) of Sector G-8 to avert traffic congestions in the vicinity.
