ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has sought application from reputed international firms for revision in Islamabad’s master plan.
The original master plan was prepared in 1960 and the city’s managers have now decided to revise the master plan as per modern-day requirements.
The federal government had formed a commission in December 2018 to revise the master plan. After several meetings, the commission addressed issues such as commercial buildings but left the comprehensive revision of the master plan to the consultant.
In October last year, the federal government directed the CDA to hire an international consultant for revising the master plan in collaboration with the Planning Commission.
The CDA has finally decided to invite applications from reputed firms after a gap of almost one year. An advertisement had been booked in two international newspapers which are likely to be published in a couple of weeks.
The consultant firm will propose solutions to several issues being confronted by the civic agency for a few decades. The CDA has held several meetings with the Planning Commission and other stakeholders and has completed all procedures for hiring the consultant.
Islamabad’s master plan was prepared in 1960 and supposed to be revised after every 20 years. However, successive governments did not make proper revisions in accordance with the emerging needs.
