ISLAMABAD: The newly formed Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of almost all major opposition parties, will hold its first anti-government public rally on October 11 in Quetta.
“The anti-government movement will be launched across the country after the historic rally in Quetta,” said former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi while addressing a press conference after PDM’s first formal meeting.
PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was accompanied by other opposition leaders. PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz and PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari did not attend the meeting.
Addressing the press conference, Khaqan said, “The movement will keep growing and will be successful in ridding Pakistan of this undemocratic process.”
Referring to the PDM’s first formal meeting, Khaqan informed that the meeting strongly condemned the shrinking space for democracy in Pakistan and discussed rising inflation, unemployment, historic corruption, and people’s issues.
The former prime minister also announced that PDM’s steering committee was also approved in today’s meeting of the opposition parties, which “will play its role in taking the PDM movement forward”.
He further informed that the organisational structure will now be sent to party leaders for approval, adding that the organisational details will be presented before the people soon.
“You will see that this movement will give rise to a true political change in Pakistan’s political history,” the former prime minister concluded.
