KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Senator Siraj-ul-Haq today (Sunday) has claimed that the next mayor Karachi would be from his party.
He expressed his views while addressing the participants of the’ Karachi rights’ march in Karachi, held for better facilities and environment for the residents and businesses of Karachi.
“If free and fair local government elections were held in the metropolis, the next mayor Karachi would be from Jamaat-e-Islami,” the Senator said, adding that the destruction of Karachi was Pakistan’s devastation.
Siraj-ul-Haq further said that the federal and provincial governments did nothing for the better of Karachi and its citizens. He demanded immediate transparent local bodies elections in the city and called for proper legislation in this regard.
He also demanded the government to provide jobs to people of Karachi as ‘they were being ignored completely in the appointment of jobs’. “People of Karachi have become tired of the linguistic politics of the PPP and MQM,” he added.
“We have our reservations over census results of Karachi. There is no clean water for drinking purpose in the city and the drainage system has collapsed completely,” Sirajul Haq added.
The JI had intensified political activities during the past several days to make the march successful and show the party’s strength in the city. With the local government elections in the offing, political parties are trying to rally public support by highlighting the Karachi problems.
