NEW DELHI: India’s top investigation agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has interrogated Deepika Padukone and Sara Ali Khan in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case on Sunday.
According to the Indian media, the Bellwood actresses were questioned for six hours at the Evelyn Guest House in Mumbai’s Colaba, where the NCB’s special investigation team has set up a base.
During the investigation, the Narcotics Control Bureau of India seized the mobile phones of Deepika Padukone and Sara Ali Khan in its probe into the Bollywood drug nexus case.
Deepika, Sara and Shraddha Kapoor recorded their statements with NCB today. Indian media citing sources reported that the NCB has seized the cell phones of Sara Ali Khan and Deepika to recover the data for further investigation.
The mobile phones have been sent for forensic examination in the case. Shraddha and Sara were also questioned separately at the NCB’s Ballard Estate office.
The investigation into Bollywood’s drugs links started after actress Rhea Chakraborty’s questioning, three months after Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead.
Earlier, the Indian top court had ordered the CBI probe into the death of Sushant. According to Indian media, the Supreme Court rejected actor Rhea Chakraborty’s petition to transfer the investigation from Patna to Mumbai in Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case.
The court remarked that the Bihar government was competent to give consent to CBI for probing into the Patna FIR. Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence in Mumbai on June 14.
Indian police had confirmed that Sushant committed suicide, as he was found hanging from the ceiling. The 34-year-old actor was living alone at his residence in Mumbai during the lockdown, according to police.
Indian media citing police said that Singh was suffering from depression for the past six months. Born in Bihar’s Purnea, Rajput’s family moved to Patna when he was young. Later, he came to Delhi to study engineering but left the course mid-way to work in the showbiz.
