ISLAMABAD: In a meeting last week, the Pakistan Military leadership had told parliamentary leaders that the army was not involved, ‘directly or indirectly’, in any political process of the country.
According to details, COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed met parliamentary leaders last week and discussed the administrative affairs of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The details of the meeting emerged a day after Federal Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed confirmed that parliamentary leaders had met the military leadership.
Meanwhile today (Monday), Federal Communications Minister Murad Saeed also confirmed the meeting, saying that the country’s institutions should not be made ‘controversial’. “The clear message from the military leadership was to not involve the military in politics,” he added.
During the meeting, the military leadership said that the Pakistan army will help the civil administration, whenever it is needed and stressed to keep the army away from political matters.
The military leadership told the parliamentarians that the army was not involved in either electoral reforms or problems related to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). “It is the responsibility of the political leadership to work out such matters between themselves,” they concluded.
