ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and discussed national, regional security issues on Monday.
According to details, matters of national security, the Afghan peace process, India’s ceasefire violations along the LoC and regional security matters were discussed in detail during the meeting. On this occasion, cabinet members and other officials were also present.
Prime Minister hailed the continued efforts of the Pak Army in guarding the borders while also ensuring internal security stability helping the ongoing socio-economic development.
Earlier, the army chief and Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed met parliamentary leaders and discussed administrative affairs of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The top military brass said that the army will continue to help civil administration, whenever it is needed and stressed to keep armed forces away from political matters.
The military leadership has made it clear that it has no role in the country’s political matters and election reforms.
On Sunday, the joint opposition parties announced launching an anti-government movement under the supervision of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) at an All Parties Conference in Islamabad.
The opposition leaders criticized state institutions and accused them of rigging the 2018 elections.
PM Imran Khan on Monday reacted to the opposition’s criticism during the All-Party conference, alleging that the criticism leveled at state institutions was an attempt to “please the Indian lobby”.
In a meeting chaired by PM Imran which was attended by party representatives and spokespersons, the prime minister guided attendees on the government’s policy in response to the criticism by opposition leaders at the APC.
