KHAIRPUR: Five suspects gang-raped a married woman after kidnapping her from her house in the Sobho Dero Police jurisdiction near Khairpur.
The suspects kidnapped the victim with her three children, took her to a deserted outhouse and gang-raped her. They fled after leaving her in critical condition.
The victim said that other than kidnapping and gang-rape, the five alleged culprits tortured her as well. However, the woman alleged that in spite of her complaint to the police, the suspects still roamed freely while the police didn’t budge.
The victim’s brother said his sister was blindfolded, beaten and raped by the five men one by one. He said the men also filmed the ordeal and threatened to upload it on the internet if she told anyone.
He said the accused also tortured her when she started shouting to get the attention of the neighbors and the passersby, adding that police were however yet to arrest any of the culprits despite the complaint.
The sources said the victim was brought to the hospital with severe torture marks on her body and that she had apparently been subjected to torture. The victim appealed to authorities concerned to provide justice and protection from the gangsters.
There have been innumerable cases of violence against women regularly. The incidents have certainly created panic and fear among women whether the streets are safe for them.
Many are considered keeping firearms or tasers against any perpetrators. Such incidents should serve as a reckoning that Pakistan needs to make roads, workplaces and our society safe for women.
