KARACHI: The torrential downpour in Karachi has affected the cellular services in the city.
The users of different telecom services providers have been facing outages due to prolonged power breakdown after terrifying rain in the city since yesterday. Following the prolonged power failure, many towers are out of service.
Some 650 feeders of K-electric trip alongside various Pad Mounted Transformers (PMT) succumbed to faults on Thursday after a heavy and incessant downpour, suspending power supply across 60 percent of Karachi.
Due to the low lying topography of various parts of Karachi, the water deluged into K-electric centres paralyzing electric supply to about 60 percent of the city. Due to water accumulation in various areas, continuing electric supply can be dangerous, said K-electric in response to power outages.
Some people said the action might have been taken on the request of the civil and police administration for the smooth passage of the Muharram seven processions. However, PTCL internet services remained functional. By the time of the filing of the story at 8 pm, services had not been restored.
