LAHORE: The total number of deaths due to coronavirus in Pakistan has reached 6,267 and 294,193 cases have been reported.
Pakistan has continued to witness a sharp drop in daily coronavirus deaths and infections as the country reported 12 deaths and 482 new cases in the past 24 hours. As many as 278,939 patients have recovered from the disease.
At least 128,676 cases of coronavirus cases were reported in Sindh, 96,466 in Punjab, 35,831 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 12,664 in Balochistan, 15,546 in Islamabad, 2,265 in Jammu Azad Kashmir and 2,745 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The death toll from the coronavirus has risen to 2,193 in Punjab, 2,384 in Sindh, 1,248 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 175 in Islamabad, 141 in Balochistan, 61 in Azad Kashmir and 65 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Six months after registering its first case, however, active cases in Pakistan are continuing to steadily decline, with the number of deaths recorded in a day often down to single digits.
The active cases have been steadily declining since hitting a peak in June, currently standing at 10,091, their lowest level since late April. Epidemiologists, however, warn that far from having weathered the storm, the country may be on the cusp of a second wave, primed to potentially hit as large religious gatherings are held this week, and wedding halls and schools are to be reopened by next month.
