SOUTHAMPTON: Despite the heroic performance of Skipper Azhar Ali, the hosts England remained in commanding position on day three of the third Test and final Test.
Pakistan was dismissed for 273 on day three of the third Test in Southampton. The Green Caps added 115 runs in the evening session at the expense of five wickets.
England, who had a lead of 310 runs, has enforced the follow on but the second innings could not start due to bad light. Azhar Ali played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 141 and remained not out.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan well-supported Azhar Ali and chipped in with valuable 52. The duo added 138 crucial runs for the sixth wicket to keep Pakistan’s hopes of drawing the match alive.
England’s fast-bowler pacer James Anderson was the pick of the bowlers for the home team as he returned with figures of 5-56 in 23 overs. Pakistan was 158-5 at tea on day three with Azhar and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan batting at 82 and 22 respectively.
England is currently leading the series after securing a three-wicket victory in Manchester last week whereas the second Test ended in a draw after persistent rain and poor weather.
