ISLAMABAD: On the directives of the prime minister, authorities have geared to take action against land mafia in the federal capital and reopen pending cases.
The pending cases with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Islamabad Police, Capital Development Authority (CDA), as well the anti-corruption department are expected to be reopened in the coming days.
The owners of two illegal housing society in Ghauri Town Chaudhry Usman Rana and Chaudhry Abdur Rehman are running from pillar to post to stop proceedings and further investigations against them.
It has been further revealed that an MNA of the ruling party has allegedly demanded Rs750 million to close the probe. The prime minister has directed Interior Ministry and Inspector-General Police (IGP) Islamabad to take action which has sent ripples across Ghauri Town.
Investors have reportedly told Ghauri Town’s owner to legally regularise the housing society or citizens will lose billions of rupees. Sources revealed that Ghauri Town has also illegally occupied lands belonging to the Auqaf Department. In order to restore investors’ confidence, the owners have started plying new buses in the housing society and sending free water tankers to residents.
The previous owners had transferred the housing society to Chaudhry Usman over fears that cases may be lodged. Residents revealed earlier this month, several government agencies including SECP, FIA, NAB, Anti-Corruption and Police took control of the graveyard, schools and grounds and lodged corruption cases.
Sources revealed that the Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner have instructed to take swift action against all illegal occupations and encroachment in the housing society.
When contacted, the society’s owner Chauhdry Usman said there were 2,800 affectees but there are none ever since he took control. He refused to answer how he went from being a surveyor to owner. The housing society scandal is estimated to be over Rs17 billion.
