KARACHI: The novel COVID-19 has claimed five more lives and infected at least 318 people during the past 24 hours, bringing the number of confirmed infections to 126,743 in Sindh province.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in a statement on the COVID-19 situation said as many as 8,094 samples were tested during this period, out of which 318 turned out to be positive.
Five more COVID-19-related deaths were reported in the previous 24 hours, he said, adding this has brought the number of deaths from the disease to 2,336.
CM Murad said 906,323 samples have been tested for the presence of coronavirus. He informed 392 more patients recuperated from the disease over the past 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 120,241.
There are 4,166 patients under treatment, 378 of whom are at various hospitals, six at isolation centers and 3,784 at home. 202 of the COVID-19 patients are critically ill, out of whom 36 are struggling for their lives on vents.
According to the CM, out of 318 new cases, 133 belong to Karachi, including 50 to South, 37 East, 17 Central, 14 Korangi, 10 Malir and five West.
Sanghar has 20 new cases, Mirpurkhas 14, Shikarpur 13, Tando Allahyar nine, Dadu and Shaheed Benazirabad eight each, Sukkur, Khairpur and Matiari seven each, Kambar five, Larkana and Tando Mohammad Khan four each, Umerkot three and Badin three each, Hyderabad, Jamshoro and Naushehroferoze two each.
