ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has decided to move a privilege motion against National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal in issues related to the cases of missing persons.
Standing Committee Chairman Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said the decision was taken as NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal did not present himself before the committee despite being called in relation to the cases of missing persons.
He said that the NAB chief had been summoned for a briefing due to his capacity as the chairman of the Missing Persons Commission. Khokhar further said that the IG Sindh attended the meeting but Justice Iqbal did not.
It is understandable that the NAB chief could not attend due to his health, however security reasons due to Asif Ali Zardari’s summoning and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) are not fathomable and justified, he added.
Senator Khokhar said that the Standing Committee has decided on proceeding with a privilege motion in the parliament against the NAB chief.
According to the registrar, the NAB chief could not attend the meeting because of health concerns. The registrar also said that he could not come for security reasons due to former President Asif Ali Zardari’s NAB court hearing.
