RAWALPINDI: Authorities have embezzled funds meant to revamp the Chauntra police station which lies in a delipidated state, while snakes have been frequently spotted causing immense danger to inmates.
The Punjab government has upgraded police stations across the province to bring them at par with international standards. In this regard, the government allocated 10 kanals land for the building of Chauntra police station.
The land has been identified several times by the Land Department, while reports had emerged that construction on the site has commenced. However, sources informed that funds for the new building have been allegedly embezzled, while the police station continues to lie in a delipidated state.
According to reports, snakes have started emerging from the rocky corners of the police station and stung an inmate. An official of the police station revealed on condition of anonymity that snakes have been spotted on a regular basis risking the lives of inmates and police officials.
Last night, a cobra snake stung an inmate leaving him a precarious situation. Police station employees are also worried that the building may collapse at any moment and have demanded an inquiry into the embezzlement of funds meant for the police station.
