KARACHI: A man was electrocuted and two others injured in different parts of the city as heavy downpour lashed metropolis on Thursday afternoon.
According to rescue sources, a 28-year-old man, Salahuddin lost his life after suffering an electric shock at Raheel Arcade in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar area. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.
Separately, a 20-year-old youth suffered severe injuries as his motorbike skidded off the road in Nazimabad. The injured was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, a 30-year-old man, Anwar sustained head injuries when a billboard fell on him near the Avari Towers hotel. He was shifted to the JPMC for first aid. Hospital sources said his condition was out of danger.
The Met Office recorded a maximum 56mm of rain at PAF Faisal Base, Saddar (46mm), University Road/Jauhar (38.2mm), MOS – Old Area Airport (37.5mm), Surjani (19mm), PAF Masroor Base (14.5mm), Kemari (12.5mm), Jinnah Terminal (9.8mm), North Karachi (10.5mm), Nazimabad (10mm), Landhi (8.7mm) and Gulshan-i-Hadeed (7mm).
During the rain, citizens suffered extreme difficulty while traveling through the flooded roads which created huge traffic jams in busiest roads in different parts of the city.
Meanwhile, CM Murad Ali Shah said the officials concerned should chalk out its strategies in an organized manner and implement flood-related SOPs. The chief minister also directed to ensure the availability of human resources and necessary machinery.
He also ordered the administrative officers to early complete the water disposal by using all available resources. He asked them to personally monitor the process of water disposal and directed that they should remain present in the field till the completion of water disposal.
The CM further said that traffic police should efficiently perform to keep the traffic moving during rain. He stated that any negligence in the arrangements and rescue work will not be tolerated.
