ML-1 railway project gets approval: Asim Bajwa

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Lt Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa has said Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved $6.806 billion transformational railway project.
On a social media website Twitter, he said “Update ML-1: Alhamdolillah, ECNEC has approved the transformational railway project at a cost of $6.806bn from Peshawar to Kci (1872 KMs) including Havelian Dry Port and upgrading Walton Academy. ”

Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, in a video message on his Twitter handle, said that the ML-1 would be a crossing-free track and reduce the travel time from Karachi to Lahore to seven hours and from Lahore to Rawalpindi to 2.5 hours. “The ML-1 is very important for reducing railway accidents,” he added.
He said that the project would allow trains to ply at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, adding that 150,000 people would work on this project.
The minister also said that ML-1 was a revolutionary project and it would revamp the entire structure of the Pakistan Railways.

On Tuesday, Asim Saleem Bajwa has said that the financial closes of 330 Megawatts (MW) Thar Block-2 power plant was expected in September end.
On a social media website Twitter, he said the project to be executed by Thal Nova and HUBCO was launched recently with an Investment of $ 500 million.
Bajwa further said that it has created 305 local jobs so far, adding that the project was being pushed by the company’s own equity to prevent time loss.
